The Best Paid Survey Sites for Fast Money in 2020

There’s a certain appeal to paid online surveys.

Prop up in bed and click, click, click — cash out.

Heck, you can even earn money while binging on Netflix.

That’s why you might want to flip on Netflix in the background.

Still, there’s something thrilling about making extra money from your bed.

I’ve combed through dozens of platforms to hand-pick the most legitimate online survey sites that pay and to help you avoid the scams.

These are the Best sites based on user experience, the ease of cashing out and the actual potential to earn money.

Disclaimer;   I believe in transparency and want to disclose this page has links to products that I may earn an affiliate commission for purchases you make.  The reader pays nothing.

The Best Paid Survey Sites — That Are Actually Legit

I suggest signing up for these paying survey sites all at once. Check into each a few times a week to find at least one or two surveys you qualify for.

Remember: Every little bit adds up.

1. InboxDollars

Screen capture of the InboxDollars sign up page.

InboxDollars, owned by CotterWeb Enterprises, Inc., is a survey site that actually pays you in dollars — not points — so you can see exactly how much you earn.

BBB rating: A+

Payment method: Check via mail

Amount paid per survey: Surveys pay up to $5 each, though it’s more likely you’ll earn 10 to 50 cents.

Minimum amount required to cash out: $30, though there’s a $3 transaction fee to cash out.

Time to get paid: 10 to 16 business days

Pros: With InboxDollars, you earn cash, so you don’t have to worry about exchanging points.

It also offers more ways to earn, such as watching videos, playing scratch-off games and searching the internet.

Cons: You have to earn $30 to cash out, which is a bit high compared to other sites on this list. Also remember you’ll have to pay that $3 transaction fee. You’ll probably want to unsubscribe from its frequent emails, which you can do under your account settings.

2. Survey Junkie

A screenshot of Survey Junkie's homepage.

This survey site is owned by Blue Media Ventures, Inc. and says it has more than 3 million members.

Survey Junkie is strictly focused on market research through surveys.

BBB rating: B+

Payment method: Points, which you can exchange for gift cards or cash via PayPal, Dwolla or direct deposit

Amount paid per survey: 20 to 200 points

Minimum amount required to cash out: 1,000 points, which equates to $10

Time to get paid: Up to 24 hours through PayPal; bank transfers can take longer.

Pros: Compared to other survey sites, the threshold to cash out is a bit lower at $10. If you qualify for five 200-point surveys, you’ll earn $10 in no time (though that’s not the most realistic situation). The platform itself is clean and easy to navigate.

Cons: Like other survey sites, you might have a difficult time qualifying for opportunities. And although you might find 200-point surveys, you’ll also find ones that only reward you 35 points for a 14-minute survey. That equates to 3.5 cents for 15 minutes of your time.

Pro tip: Once you sign up for Survey Junkie, you’ll start banking bonus points. If you take all the profile surveys, which will ideally help match you to opportunities you qualify for, you can earn an easy 200 points or so.

Tips to Make the Most From Survey Sites

First, pile your couch with pillows and get comfy. Turn on some tunes or play Netflix in the background.

But seriously. You’re going to want to settle in and practice patience with survey sites. To make the process more efficient, here are a few of our pro tips:

Create a New Email Address for Surveys

It’s no secret: Signing up for a survey site means you’re likely going to get an influx of emails. These could be ads or earning opportunities.

Either way, it can really clog up your work or personal email.

Create a new email address for free through Gmail or Yahoo.

Now these additional emails will automatically stay clear of your real life.

Never Pay to Join a Survey Site (or Enter your Bank Info)

You should never have to pay to join a survey site. These sites are paying you, because you’re participating in market research and helping companies out.

Additionally, you shouldn’t have to enter your banking information. Legitimate sites pay with gift cards, through PayPal or with an old-school check in the mail.

Answer Honestly, and Update Your Information Often

You’ll qualify for certain surveys based on your demographics.

For example, a company might be looking for homeowners to answer a question about their product. Or another might only want parents.

Either way, be honest. Sure, you can be vague and broad in your responses (recommended), but honesty is the best policy.

Additionally, be sure to keep your profiles on these sites up to date. If you move, update your city. If you get a new job or a salary boost, update that. It could help you qualify for more opportunities.

Use Roboform to Auto-Fill Responses

You know how survey sites ask you the same questions over and over and over, especially when you’re first signing up?

Using a free auto-fill platform like Roboform can help. You’ll enter your information into its system once, then it’ll recognize when that question is being asked and automatically fill in the information for you. This will save you a bunch of time.

Additionally, you can use Roboform to save your passwords — because let’s be honest, no one can ever remember passwords.

6. VIP Voice

vip voice screenshot

VIP Voice is owned by market research company NPD Group, which has been around since 1966. It exclusively offers survey opportunities. You’ll earn points and use them to enter sweepstakes for cash and prizes.

BBB rating: A+ (but not accredited)

Payment method: Points to enter sweepstakes

Amount paid per survey: Typically 100 to 225 points

Minimum amount required to cash out: You can enter sweepstakes with as little as one point and cash out your winnings anytime.

Time to get paid: Varies

Pros: You’ll earn points from a variety of surveys, even if you don’t qualify to take the entire survey. Additionally, you’re not plagued with pop-ups or ads, and you won’t be navigated away from the VIP Voice portal.

Cons: You don’t automatically win cash or gift cards. This survey site requires a little luck, because you’ll have to enter sweepstakes and bid on prizes, so it could be a big waste of time.

  • Never pay for a survey site. Any legitimate survey site will ever ask for your payment information.
  • Sign-up bonuses. While not all of the good survey sites give you a bonus just for registering as a new user, it’s definitely a great incentive. Sometimes they can be as high as $5.
  • Payment Thresholds. Most survey sites require you to reach a minimum balance before you can cash out.
  • Be aware of this when you first sign-up. I’ve seen some for as little as $5 and some as high as $50. Yet keep in mind that those with a higher payout threshold usually pay much better.

  • How and when they pay. This may be important depending on how quick you need the cash. I’ve seen survey sites pay out only once a month, whereas with others you can request a payout at any time.
  • Furthermore, keep in mind what type of compensation they pay, whether it be gift cards or PayPal deposits. All of the sites have at least paid me once.
  • Privacy. Most of the time you don’t have to worry about this. Survey sites typically keep all of your answers anonymous, so there’s no way to link your opinions back to you. I made sure that all survey sites on this list meet this criteria.
  • Don’t forget to verify your email. When you register with the majority of these survey sites,
  • they’ll require you to verify your email address.

Amazon Jobs: Amazon is Hiring 3,000 Remote Workers in 2019

March 11, 2019 by Frugal Prof

amazon FBA experiment

Amazon announced plans to hire 3,000 remote workers in 18 states.

Amazon is ranked sixth on the 2019 list of “100 Top Companies with Remote Jobs” for the number of at-home jobs the company listed in 2018.

Employing more than 90,000 people, Amazon is a Fortune 500 company and is ranked by Forbes as one of the most innovative companies in the world, among many more accolades.

The job listing for customer service associates, posted on March 4th, indicates that the role pays $15 an hour, provides health care coverage after 90 days of employment and offers overtime pay.

Amazon customer service associates earn $15 per hour, and the company requires paid mandatory training for any new employees.

The role generally consists of 20 to 29 hours per week of work, though that number may go up to 60 hours per week during large-scale events or peak seasons. Overtime pay is 1.5 times the base rate of $15 per hour.

After 90 days of employment, customer service associates become eligible for a healthcare coverage plan.  Amazon jobs info here

Amazon is considering job candidates who live in 18 states:

Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas,

Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana,

Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska,

New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma,

South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas,

Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming

Amazon Remote Worker Job Details:

The part-time work-from-home role “generally consists of 20 to 29 hours per week, with the expectations to work up to 60 hours a week if there is a customer need,”

and specifies that workers cannot live in a zip code that is within 50 miles of an Amazon customer service site.

Amazon is paying $15 an hour, which is at the higher end for the types of customer service roles that we typically see.

It is also unique for this kind of part-time customer service role to provide health coverage, and that these kinds of positions can provide opportunities for upward mobility.

The customer service associate role includes supporting Amazon customers via phone, email and instant messenger and does not require any education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent.

Amazon indicates that it is looking for workers with previous customer service expedience, logical problem-solving skills and experience working in a fast-paced environment.

“There’s a lot of different backgrounds that could fit with this type of role, as long as you have a history of communicating and helping to solve problems and you feel like you’re able to work in fast-paced environment,” says an analyst.

“There isn’t really one background that fits, which is kind of nice because a lot of different people could qualify for this type of role.”

Amazon is also hiring for other remote positions, such as technical account manager, migration lead, front-end engineer, program manager and security consultant.

If you are at the end of a successful corporate career, getting a position on a corporate board may be the next step for you.

Boards are heavily populated with retirees – most were CEOs or upper management during their careers. Twenty percent by 2020 is an organization dedicated to helping successful women gain board positions.

7. Home-based jobs

Dream of working within arm’s reach of your couch and coffee maker? AARP advises simply contacting the place you want to work and asking if it hires remote employees.

Barring that, you can turn to websites such as Upwork.com, which features online positions; Freelancer.com for project-based work; and VirtualVocations.com for telecommuting jobs.

Retirees who speak another language can avail themselves of growing home-based opportunities; graphic designers can find assignments designing websites, logos, business cards and the like; while writers have their pick of a wide range of writing and editing jobs.

Crafty? Make jewelry, paint landscapes or sew a quilt and sell your handcrafted wares via an online marketplace such as Etsy.

Accountant, however, is the part-time job most requested by clients of staffing firm FlexProfessionals, according to co-founder Gwenn Rosener, AARP reports.

9. Direct sales

Avon calling! Working for a direct-sales firm such as the iconic cosmetics company or the competing Mary Kay can make you a lot of money.

There are often start-up costs, but on the plus side, you can market your wares from your home office and make sales online or through home or office parties; old-school door-to-door sales (hairbrush or encyclopedia set, anyone?) are largely a thing of the past.

You’ll typically be earning commission instead of a salary.

For more information on direct-sales work and companies operating in the field, AARP advises contacting the Direct Selling Association, consulting Federal Trade Commission website business.ftc.gov and checking with your local chamber of commerce, the Better Business Bureau or your state attorney general’s office regarding any possible past complaints about an employer you’re considering.

11 Ways to Make Money Playing Video Games like Fortnite in 2019

November 26, 2018 by Frugal Prof

It’s actually possible to make money playing video games in 2019! Not all of the options are going to make you rich, but some certainly have potential as money makers.  Here are the top 11 ways that you can make money playing video games like Fortnite in 2019.

Disclaimer;   I believe in transparency and want to disclose this page has links to products that I may earn an affiliate commission for purchases you make.  The reader pays nothing.

DO THIS FIRST: Play Games. Make Money.

Before we continue with the list, did you know you can play games online and actually make money by doing so? Swagbucks will pay you to play and it’s completely free to get started.

In fact, they’ll give you $5.00 just for signing up. They’ve paid out $136 MILLION dollars so far and you can get in on that action just by creating a free account here.

1. Game Testing

Becoming a games tester actually isn’t that hard, most large game studios have openings for games testers.

The position isn’t glamorous though, in fact it’s often quite the opposite. Games testers generally don’t earn that much money, which wouldn’t be an issue if the job was amazing.

It can get quite boring playing the same section of a game over and over all day.

That being said, you’re still getting paid to play!

2.  Creating Game Guides and Walkthroughs

This option is perfect if you know a game inside and out. While some gamers look down upon guides and walkthroughs as basically cheating, a lot of people love them!

With a little bit of time and patience, and a good amount of knowledge you can easily create an e-book that could sell for $15 or more.

Create a blog to gain traffic and create a business selling your e-book.

7 tips to create a successful blog here.

Best options are places like Amazon, or better yet a targeted site like Killer Guides

Both will take a part of the sale price, but they do open you up to a much larger market.

3. Showcasing Your “Let’s Play” Videos

With the rise of streaming sites in general, more and more people are watching other people play games.

This could be turned into a gold mine by streaming or posting your game play. Literally, a gold mine. Twitch’s top streamers earn over half a million dollars per month.

For example, popular Twitch streamer Ninja (real name: Tyler Blevins) revealed earlier this year that he earns around $500,000 per month from Twitch Prime subscriptions, sponsorships, and partnerships, as well as YouTube revenues from his 5 million subscribers.

4. eSports Tournaments

Nineteen-year-old Austin Etue silently stared at his computer in disbelief.

He’d just won $250,000 playing a video game.

Before Sept. 3, almost no one in the gaming world had even heard of Etue — he had less than 10 followers on Amazon-owned gamer streaming platform Twitch and was playing against big names like FaZe Clan’s “Tfue,” who has over 3.5 million Twitch followers.

But there he was: He had just defeated 99 of the world’s top gamers in the final round of the Summer Skirmish, a tournament for Fortnite, the massively popular multi-player online survival game.

Fortnite developer Epic Games put up a total of $1.5 million for the final stage of the competition, and Etue had finished first and was taking home the biggest chunk of that tantalizing prize pool.

If you want to become famous in the community while bagging some serious and legitimate cash, then eSports are the way forward.

5. Write or Record Reviews and Opinions

For most video game players, writing reviews and opinions appeals to many.

The great thing about it is that you can choose what games to review and talk about, unlike being a games tester.

8. Ask for Donations

As soon as you sign up to stream (it’s free), you can add a donation button to your channel, which allows viewers to throw cash your way.

Donations can be anything from $1 to even thousands of dollars in one fell swoop. While the latter case isn’t the norm, some Twitch streamers have received large donations on their channels.

The best part about donations is that you don’t have to pay for a Twitch subscription or have a set number of followers to qualify. Anyone can add a donation button to their channel, and strangers who enjoy watching can toss you a few bucks.

9. Sell Your Characters

In MMO’s, building up characters is a large part of the game. Kitting them out in end game gear takes time, effort and a skill.

What then do you do if you get bored of the game or just want to make some cash?

Sell your character of course!

Depending on the game this is likely to be forbidden by the games terms, but it doesn’t mean you can’t still do it.

Places such as Player Auctions allow you to offload your account for a profit.

Don’t be dismayed though if it backfires on you or if you only get a paltry fee, people only pay for the best of the best when they are gaming the system (pun intended!).

10. Collect “Bits”

In October 2016, Twitch announced a tipping system called “Cheering,” through which viewers can gift their favorite streamers online currency called Bits.

Viewers can earn 5 to 100 Bits (100 Bits are worth $1.40) by watching 30-second ads. They can also purchase Bits outright via the Amazon payment system.

When a viewer likes something you did in your game, they can type “cheerxx” into the chat bar on your channel, where “xx” is the number of Bits they want to gift.

For example, if someone types “cheer1000,” you’ll receive 1,000 Bits, which are worth $10.

11. Farming Gold and Items

If games’ testing isn’t for you, you could always try your hand at farming in game currencies and equipment.

Most games, such as World of Warcraft (WoW) actively ban this sort of practice, but some games such as Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CO:GO) actively allow and promote this.

Depending on the game and the virtual product, earnings have the potential to be quite good.

The downside though is the amount of time that is needed to spend farming the stuff in the first place, especially for things like gold where you need a lot of it to earn a small amount of money.

WoW gold currently sells for pennies per 1,000 gold which means you would need to farm 300,000 gold to maybe make $100. Maybe…

Items might be more profitable, often one item can sell for $5 – $20 or more, but getting the drops worth selling takes time and patience. The Steam marketplace makes this sort of item sale very easy indeed.

Games such as Diablo 3 made it even easier by having the real life auction system built in.

It’s certainly going to help you retire at 30, but you could make cash on the side from it.

Bonus:  Collect Subscribers

Leveling up requires a bit more work, but it packs a bigger payoff. Once you’ve amassed a steady following — at least 500 regular viewers — you can apply to be a Twitch Partner at no cost. Becoming a partner is key to earning more revenue on Twitch.

One of its benefits is the illustrious “Subscribe” button. Subscribers are people who really like you and want you to succeed. For each subscriber you gain, Twitch will pay you about $2.50 per month.

You don’t even have to be the best at the games you stream. If you are entertaining and market yourself on social media, you can gain valuable ground in the streaming world.

Try setting up a YouTube account where potential followers can get to know you before they commit to subscribing to your channel. Posting highlight reels from your streams will entice them to visit your channel on Twitch. Think of it as investing in a trailer so people will want to watch the whole film.

The most successful Twitch streamers interact with their viewers, display their gratitude for donations and are expressive. Humor and quirkiness will set you apart from the crowd.

Bonus:  Earn Ad Revenue

Nobody likes ads, but they do make the World Wide Web go ‘round.

If you’ve registered as a Twitch Partner and started gaining subscribers, you’ll also start earning ad revenue. Your channel will bring in about $250 per 100 subscribers per month.

How to Get Started on Twitch

1. Sign up with a username, password, email and your birthday, or by connecting your Facebook account. You’ll need to be at least 13 years old.

2. Download Twitch-compatible broadcasting software, if you’re using a PC or laptop.

To stream from a PC or laptop, click the “Stream Key” link on your Twitch dashboard to get your personalized key. Copy and paste this key into your broadcast software.

If you’re streaming from a PS4, click here. From an Xbox One, follow these instructions.

3. If you want other people to see you while you play, you’ll need to invest in video capture equipment. If you want them to hear you, you’ll need a microphone.

4. Set up a PayPal account to collect the money you earn from streaming.

5. If you have Amazon Prime, connect your Twitch account.

Twitch is owned by Amazon, and the retail giant recently dropped the news that if you have an Amazon Prime subscription, you get Twitch Prime for free.

Twitch Prime offers free in-game loot, game discounts, zero ads, and more bonuses you’d normally have to pay for.

The Best Paid Survey Sites for Fast Money in 2019

Join Inbox Dollars Here

5. Nielsen Computer Panel (Earn Without Taking Surveys)

Nielsen Computer and Mobile Panel pays you without the need to take a survey.

Simply install their mobile app or install their desktop software and earn money by having them track your internet usage. They track things such as your internet speeds and what browser you’re using.

Essentially, you’re earning a passive income. Once you install the app, get paid just to leave it on your phone.

Simply install the app and do things that you would normally do – surf the web, play games and text your friends. Not only that, but by using the app you frequently automatically get entered into sweepstakes for a prize drawing of $10,000.

Benefits:

  • Get paid for surveys without actually taking surveys
  • Earn prizes as well as gift cards
  • Earn a passive income – get paid to leave an app installed on your phone
  • By leaving the app installed, you are frequently entered into a drawing for $10,000

6. VIP Voice

vip voice screenshot

How to Earn Free Amazon Gift Cards in 2019

October 18, 2018 by Frugal Prof

With a little elbow grease, anyone can earn free Amazon gift cards completing simple tasks ranging from watching some videos, reviewing apps, scanning receipts, and even for cashing in that jar full of pennies.

  • Disclaimer;   I believe in transparency and want to disclose that I’ve included certain products and links to those products  that I will earn an affiliate commission for purchases you make.  The reader pays nothing.

Amazon  has evolved to the point where you can buy just about everything through their platform.

Need something to read?

A new wardrobe?

How about groceries?

Whatever you’re looking for, Amazon’s got it – and you can pay for all of it with a gift card.

Below, I’ve detailed a few easy and totally legitimate ways you can earn free Amazon gift cards and take some of the sting out of the price of that Jeff Goldblum shower curtain you need to complete your bathroom. It really is a masterpiece.

Scan your receipts

Grocery apps like Ibotta offer cash back when you preload offers and scan your grocery receipts, but you can opt for Amazon gift cards instead.

  • What is Ibotta?
  • Ibotta is a cash-back app that grants you rewards (in real-life dollars — not points or gift cards) on your everyday purchases
  • It turns couponing into a bit of a game, and you can do it all from your phone.  No newspaper coupons required.
  • It also features rewards across retailers: from Amazon to Forever 21 to Walmart.

Here’s how to use Ibotta:

1. Download the free app and sign up.

2. Explore cash-back offers.

Ibotta is a great way to find cash back not only on grocery staples but also at online retailers and through travel sites. You can also use it to discover new brands.

For example, if you only bought Viva paper towels before downloading the app.

But if you can get $3 back on a pack of Bounty, why not?

Value Investing

Trade in your old electronics, movies, books, and games

Old books and movies, video games, and your cell phone from 4 phones ago that you threw in a drawer and forgot about? Trade them for some Amazon gift cards.

  • Amazon Trade-In Program

Get Paid for Sharing Your Amazon Purchase History

  • Such an easy way to Earn an extra $36
  • Shoptracker  is operated by The Harris Poll, a well known survey company that measures U.S. public opinion.
  • In this case, it wants to see what products Amazon users purchase. When you sign up for ShopTracker, it tracks your Amazon purchases from your computer.
  • All it wants to see is your order information, including the order date, product title, category, ISBN number, release date, condition, seller, list price per unit, quantity and other details.
  • Shoptracker will send you a $3 Visa Gift card every month but only if you download their software, which takes about 5 minutes. Here is more info about ShopTracker

Share your opinion online

  • SwagBucks:   Swagbucks is the largest online rewards site that gives free gift cards to its members for their online activities, such as Taking Surveys, Shopping, Searching the Web, Watching Videos, and Playing Video Games.

The Highest Paying Survey Sites:

  • Survey Junkie (Great Surveys/ Great Payout/ Earn $12-$18/ Hour)

  • Vindale  ($2 sign-up bonus and high-paying surveys)

  • American Consumer Opinion:   6 Million Members (My nephew makes $150-175/mo with ACOP)

  •  Ipsos I-Say   (High Earnings up to $95! and solid reviews!)

Cash in your credit card rewards

It’s not my favorite use of points, and definitely not the most valuable way to use them, but the option is there.  Check with your credit card provider to see if you can cash your points in for Amazon gift cards.

Check in when you shop at the store

Doing a little brick and mortar shopping? Check in at the store with an app like Shopkick to earn points that can be redeemed for free Amazon gift cards.

  • Shopkick
  • CheckPoints

Leverage your Amazon spending through your Prime account

Being a Prime subscriber comes with a ton of perks, but one of my favorites is that I can opt out of free 2-day shipping in exchange for free Amazon credits. They’re usually limited to either digital downloads or Prime Pantry orders, but it’s still a nice discount the next time you rent a movie, buy an ebook, and the Pantry credit can be used towards nonperishable groceries and household goods.

Watch some TV

Use one of these apps to check-in to your favorite TV shows and earn rewards you can cash in for free Amazon gift cards. Viggle is part of Perks.com.

  • Viggle
  • iRazoo

Download and test apps

Love discovering new apps? Become a tester and you can earn Amazon gift cards for your feedback about them.

  • Appdown
  • MobileXpression
  • Feature Points
  • App Trailers

Trade gift cards you don’t want for the one that you do

With gift card exchanges, every gift card can be magically transformed into an Amazon gift card! Trade your unused gift cards for cash, true, but the trade-in value is generally higher when you exchange the cards you don’t want for the ones you do.

  • Cardpool
  • CardCash
  • Raise

Cash in your penny jar

Normally when you lug your jar of pennies to the closest Coinstar coin counter, the company takes a percentage of the total as a fee. But you can skip the fee when you opt for a gift card instead.

Complete simple tasks

If you’re willing to complete simple tasks like image sorting, watching a video, listening to music, or playing a game, you can earn Amazon gift cards for your work. Mechanical Turk is owned by Amazon, and you can choose to be compensated with credits to your gift card account.  Perk.com is also a compelling option, rolling up several different task types covered by our list into a single app.

  • Mechanical Turk
  • Perk.com
  • Earning Station

Surf the web

Companies like Microsoft and InstaGC offer gift cards in exchange for the data they get when you search and browse the internet. One downside to Microsoft Rewards is that you’ll have to replace your favorite search engine with Bing.

  • InstaGC

What Is Passive Income and How To Make Passive Income in 2019

September 24, 2018 by Frugal Prof

Many people dream about leaving the workforce and retire early or just have more time with family.  Some dream about having the ability to travel without worrying about a paycheck.

But a dream without a plan is just a wish.

passive income

To put some wheels on that dream, you need to consider passive income.

There are plenty of different passive income options and explanations of how to build it. If you’re new to the idea, I’m about to break it down for you.

What Is Passive Income?

Passive income is money you earn in a way that requires little to no effort. Some passive income ideas—like renting out property or building a blog—may take some work to get up and running, but they could eventually earn you money while you sleep.

Why Build Passive Income?

Your income is your greatest wealth-building tool—a tool that typically requires your active participation in the form of a full-time job. You know what I’m talking about! Even if you love your job, I’m willing to bet you wouldn’t mind earning some extra income without the blood, sweat, tears, and time commitment of another job. In fact, there are several benefits. Building a passive income:

• Increases your wealth-building plan

• Creates an opportunity to retire early

• Protects you from a complete loss of income if you lose your job

• Provides an additional source of income when you’re no longer able to work or if you outlive your retirement fund

How Much Money Can I Make?

Passive income generally won’t make you wealthy overnight, so forget about any get-rich-quick schemes you’ve heard of. But steady, profitable passive income options can build some serious money over the long haul. We’re talking anywhere from a few thousand dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars—depending on the income stream.

How to Build Passive Income

Passive income can be built in many ways, but first let’s take a look at what it truly is and which income streams are available.

Investing

When we say “passive income,” some people tend to think of investing because it can produce the largest results with the least amount of work. But your retirement plan and passive income should be thought of as two separate things.

The whole idea behind long-term investing is to create income for retirement.

Read about The risk to the current stock market here.

You want to make sure you’re investing in your company retirement plan, like a 401(k)—if your fund choices are good and they offer a match—in addition to other tax-favored plans like a Roth IRA if they don’t offer a Roth 401(k).

These are great options for building a solid retirement plan, but you will incur taxes and penalties for any withdrawals before a certain age. With retirement planning, you want to let your money grow for the long haul and not touch it!

On the other hand, we want to think about passive income as a type of low-effort income that can be accessed at any time. Let’s take a look at some of these options below.

Real Estate

One way to build passive income after you’re debt-free and have some cash saved up is by purchasing real estate and renting it out to tenants.

Before you buy rental property, pay off your own home first and purchase your investment property with cash. Don’t ever go into debt to buy rental property!

The last thing you need to do is take on the expense of owning another house or commercial building on top of a monthly mortgage payment! Cash only. Period.

I also suggest buying close by so you can personally keep an eye on the property. Find a real estate agent who knows your area well so you can buy property in a location that will attract renters.

Rental property can be a great source of extra income, but it isn’t the most passive choice because you’ll put a lot of time and effort into managing the property—unless you hire a property management company.

Other Passive Income Ideas

Affiliate marketer

Affiliate marketers earn commissions by promoting other companies’ products.

You can become an affiliate marketer by creating a blog and writing product reviews or sharing information about a particular product, service, or pastime.

Read my post on how to begin a blog here.

For example, if you love cooking, you might start a blog where you share your favorite recipes but include links to certain ingredients or kitchen tools you’re looking to promote.

If your readers click on those links and make purchases, you’ll earn a commission. It’s really that simple. And while you probably won’t start out earning $1,000 a month with this sort of gig, once you build up an audience and find more products or services to promote, you could end up banking that much or more on a monthly basis.

11 of the Best Side Hustles to Earn an Extra $1,000 in 2019

September 19, 2018 by Frugal Prof

11 of the Best Side Hustles to Earn an Extra $1,000 in 2019

There’s a reason side hustles are becoming more popular these days. Not only do they allow you to expand your horizons and grow professionally, but they’re a great way to pocket some extra cash.

By getting a second gig on top of your full-time job, you’ll have a prime opportunity to accumulate more spending money, pay down debt, or pad your savings account.

That said, if you’re going to put in the effort and get a second job, you might as well get the most money out of the deal.

Of course, the amount you earn each month will tie in to the number of hours you’re willing to spend working that side hustle. But if you put in your time, these gigs have the potential to pay $1,000 a month — or more.

1. Web developer

On a basic level, web developers create and maintain websites, but there’s much more to it than that. While some web developers focus on back-end tasks, like creating databases, others use their design skills to create compelling graphics and features.

To work as a web developer, you’ll need to be well-versed in coding or scripting languages like HTML, PHP, and JavaScript, to name just a few.

But if you are, you could easily command $50 an hour for your services, which means that if you work your side hustle for 20 hours over the course of a given month, you could take home $1,000.

2. Graphic designer

If you’re passionate about graphic design and know your way around popular software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, then you might score yourself some pretty substantial money on the side.

Graphic designers create everything from website images to catalogs and brochures, and they’re often able to charge $75 or more per hour for their services.

Put in 14 hours a month at that rate, and you’ll easily hit the $1,000 mark.

Cash surveys

3.  Loan Signing Agent

You Earn Extra Income,  Set your Own Hours, and the Income is Fantastic! ($75-$200 per appointment).

• First of all, it’s really good money:

You can make $75 to $200 in a single signing, and a signing takes about an hour.

Total work time including preparing and driving to the signing is about an hour and a half to two hours when you’re starting out. And a lot less as you become more experienced.

Part time loan signing agents generally do one to three signings per week, – about $300 to $500 dollars extra a week. while full time agents can do 3-8 signings in a day which is about $400 to over $1,000  dollars in a day.

  • You can start part-time and work around your existing work schedule since most signings occur on evenings and weekends.  Simply pick up work when you want, and keep your day job.

• You can get started with absolutely zero experience. There’s no resume checking prior to a loan signing. You are hired simply based on your location in proximity to the loan signing.

• You can work from home and be your own boss. Owning your own business can allow you to take advantage its many benefits, such as tax write-offs.

• You have the ability to make money almost immediately.

It pays nearly 9X more than driving for Uber.  However, it requires you to take a class and invest time and money.

If you can do that, then you can start making up to $200 per signing.

Within a year, Julia is now making $10,000 per month.

Hear her story below.

4.  Become a Transcriptionist:

Transcribe documents and movies:  You’ve probably heard of scribie.

They pay 5$ to $20/audio hour. It’s another company that would let you work at your own convenient time. Very flexible and files are usually around 6 minutes or less.

It also has its own software that would allow you to dictate instead of typing.

You can also get promoted once you level up.

5. Paid Consumer Research

Companies try to understand consumer behavior and trends and they pay you for your time for consumer research via Paid Online Surveys.

These consumer research sites are 100% FREE to join and always pay and pay out on-time.

  • 1. Sign Up.
  • 2. Confirm your e-mail.
  • 3.  Earn Money.
  • 4.  Do them quickly to avoid burnout.

These companies are ranked in terms of Quality, Reputation, Earning Potential, and other factors.

For those who want to earn up to the $650+/month mark, I suggest trying out all of the sites on the list and stick with the ones that work best for you.

Survey Junkie:  (Great Surveys, Little Time, Great Payout)

You  can earn anywhere from $12 – $18 per hour from Survey Junkie!

Survey Junkie has one of the strongest reputations on the web, and they’ve always paid on-time and the right amount. Not only that, but they have excellent customer service if you ever have an issue.

Taking surveys in your spare time can be a great way to earn some extra dough fast. Check out Survey Junkie  which will pay you instantly with cash via Paypal. They have over 6,000,000 members and they have an 8.9/10 rating on Trust Pilot.

American Consumer Opinion:   Easy to sign up. And they have 6 Million Members.

Reviews of American Consumer Opinion:

  • “American Consumer Opinion Panel has been one of the best, and probably THE best, panel that I have worked with in some time…” J.D., Texas –
  • “I do surveys for several different companies and, I have to say, American Consumer Opinion ranks at the top as they have a very good site with no junk [that] seems to be well managed.”  H.B., Tennessee –

5. Musical instructor

If you’re passionate about an instrument you love playing, then why not teach others to do the same?

Music lessons can bring in some serious cash, and all you really need to provide them is the ability to play the instrument in question and a fair degree of patience.

The amount you’ll earn as a musical instructor will vary depending on where you live and the instrument you play, but to give you an example, piano teachers typically get $30 to $60 an hour. If you’re able to command the high end of that range, you can bring home $1,000 a month after 17 hours on the job.

6.  Get paid to charge Scooters

Bird electric scooter side hustle

Electric Scooter Charging: A New Side Hustle from Bird Pays $30/ Hour

Mike Wisell, 33, a tattoo artist who lives in Santa Monica, started a new gig a few weeks ago. He charges scooters and he makes pretty good money doing it.

Bird is among a handful of companies that rent out electric scooters to get around big cities. The site uses a team of “chargers” to pick up the scooters when they’re running out of juice, bring them home, charge them and return to a “nest.”

Training was simple:

  • sign up,  (No affiliate relationship)
  • take an online video course,
  • receive a set of tools in the mail,
  • then get to work.

He even picks his own hours.

“The pay is pretty good if you hustle,” he says.

7. Waiter

It’s hard to pinpoint what waiters earn on average, because there are so many variables involved. But know this: If you’re able to snag a few popular shifts (think evenings and weekends) at a high-end restaurant, you might easily take in $1,000 a month in tips alone.

8. Affiliate marketer

Affiliate marketers earn commissions by promoting other companies’ products.

You can become an affiliate marketer by creating a blog and writing product reviews or sharing information about a particular product, service, or pastime.

9. Photographer

Love taking pictures? Why not offer up your services to those looking to capture key memories?

As a photographer, you can do everything from family photo shoots to low-key events to weddings. And if you’re good at what you do, it can be an extremely lucrative side gig.

Case in point: The average wedding photographer in the U.S. commands around $2,000 for his or services. Not bad for a single day’s work (plus editing and such, of course).

How to create a business as a photographer here.

10. Personal trainer

If you have a passion for fitness and exercise, then you might consider moonlighting as a personal trainer outside of your regular job. In doing so, you’ll not only keep yourself more active, but empower other people to get in shape.

Best of all, you might do pretty well financially.

Personal trainers earn an average of $50 per hour, but some can easily charge up to $100. To become a certified trainer, you’ll need to go through a course which will not only require some of your time, but also, your money. But if you’re willing to make the investment, it could pay off in the long run.

11. Babysitter

If you love kids, then babysitting on nights and weekends is a good way to beef up your bank account. Depending on where you live and the job in question, you might earn up to $20 an hour watching other people’s children.

Granted, you’ll need to be willing to give up a decent chunk of your personal downtime to hit the $1,000 mark on a monthly basis, but think about it this way: Babysitting often means sitting on somebody else’s couch while children are asleep.

And really, that’s not so hard. Just be aware that some families will want you to become CRP-certified before hiring you. If so, you’ll need to complete a brief course, but a non-expensive one at that.

I hope you’ve found some ideas to get you started on creating a side hustle that earns you $1,000 in 2019!
